Smith Announcement

Today, on Wednesday, November 14th, 2007, Jaime Katlin Smith (sorry if I mis-spelled her name) was born at 8:00am at Walnut Creek Kaiser. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and is 20 inches long! Erin, Mike, and the baby are doing great! Erin started contractions at 1:30 this morning, went to the hospital around 6:30am and pushed for only 25 minutes! Unfortuantely, it was too late for an epidural, but she was a trooper! We hope to send you pictures soon! Auntie Mickie

Zero Time

It never seems to be enough time anymore for me to write here. Since Wesley has been off and running, we have less time to do the things we used to be able to do. Before, I could type on the computer and he wouldn't notice. Now, he's able to walk to me, want "up", then wants to play with the keyboard, mouse, and whatever else he can get his hands on. Thank goodness for 2 hour naps! Still can't blog during napping, though, because we're doing chores where he would get in the way if he was awake.

I have been meaning to put pictures and videos of him walking. I'll see if I can post one at the end of his blog.

And,Ta-Da! He's finally at least 20 lbs! It only took him a year and a half. We can finally turn the car seats around so he can now face foward. He seems to enjoy it. The other morning, when Jay was driving him to daycare, Wesley saw a little yellow car on the freeway and was trying to tell Jay he wanted it.

Talking about what he wants, he's been getting a little bossy. For instance, when we go Grocery shopping, if I take my hands off the red plastic handle off the shopping cart and place it elsewhere, he complains takes my hands off the metal part and places them back on the plastic part. It bothers him. He also sometimes doesn't like it when you are sitting in "his space" (which can be anywhere, by the way) and will either push you or pull you out of that area. Sheesh! We'll probably be having a talk about that in the future.

Here's a video when he wasn't quite walking yet. I'll post a video in my next blog of him walking. Jay decided to give him a workout in this video.

Pismo

We're back from Pismo Beach! And we came back unscathed! Wes and Rudy did great!

We didn't take Rudy. He had a sleep over at Jill and Dennis' house. This is the 2nd time he has done a sleep over at someone else's house. Thanks guys for watching him.

It was a 3 hour drive down to Pismo. Wes woke up earlier than his usual time of 6:30am and we were able to start off at 8am. For the first 2 hours, I kept Wes entertained. Towards the 3rd hour I had run out of all his toys and books and he started to get cranky. We didn't do a rest stop... in which I was getting worried. I didn't know how I was going to entertain him for ANOTHER hour. Luckily, he started to suck his thumb and fell asleep! Whew! He took about a 45 min nap, so when we got to the hotel, he was already awake.

Our room was ready and we were able to check in right away. Wanda came about a half hour later, we had lunch in the room and next thing we know, it was time for Wes' nap. It took him about 20 minutes to settle down in his Pack n' Play, but he went down and slept his normal 2 hour nap! He was still sleeping by the time Cheryl, Eddie, and the girls arrived.

After his nap, we hit the beach. Wesley was a little weirded out by the sand and kept trying to rub the sand off his toes. But he had a great time sitting on the beach playing with his sand bucket, stabbing the wet sand with his shovel. There was also a man in a speedo..ew! Ok, he did have a nice body, but it's not something I really like to see. We were all pretty turned off by this display. He seemed pretty vain too, I thought. He was running up and down the beach in front of everyone's view, pretending to chase his dog. So, Auntie Cheryl, at the bottom of this blog, we have a pic for you that will rival this man!

He was walking so much by himself this weekend. It seemed to happen in one week. He still wants to hold your fingers when he wants to walk fast! He especially took to Maddie, his cousin, and she helped walk him around (and also got him nice and tired :) )

He did great sleeping. He did wake up and cry a couple of times during the first night, but immediately went back to sleep. We, on the other hand, had a little more trouble. Since he was in a smaller crib, whenever he moved, his limbs would rub against the netting on the crib. We would hear every movement he would make.

Next morning we headed down to the beach again. At first he would cross his legs when we tried to put him down. He just didn't want to touch the sand with his feet. Eventually he put his feet down and started to walk. Wesley held Jay's fingers and they had fun exploring the caves, rocks, and tide pools. He still didn't like the sand on his feet, but loved to sift the wet sand with his fingers in the tide pool.

On the last night, we went to dinner at McClintoks. Cheryl had to call an hour before for reservations, and then she was told we would have to wait another 15 minutes when we arrived. Weird..wouldn't it be better if we just arrived an hour and 15 minutes at the restaurant? So, we tried to go a half hour earlier (5:30), thinking once we were there, we would only have to wait 15 mintues...guess what? They made us wait the entire 1 hour and 15 minutes from when Cheryl first made the reservation on the phone! During the whole dinner, I thought Wes was going to be fussy. But, he did great..had a great time and ate great. Course, who could go wrong with noodles in a creamy sauce. I also forgot to mention, we found out he loves clam chowder! And, over at McClintocks, the busboys pour your water from a high distance. Wes thought this tall blond guy was his hero when he saw what the guy could do. Later, whenever he saw this guy, he would just stare at him.

On the ride back, Wes slept half of the way up, so, again, things weren't too bad. We were able to stop and get some lunch.

Sorry for the long blog. Hope I didn't bore you to tears. And as promised, here is our version of a speedo pic:

16 months

Wesley turned 16 months on the 19th. Today he took the most steps by himself..16 steps! He's finally starting to walk..don't know if that is a good thing or not..right now our lower backs have been hurting us with all the hand holding. And when he uses our hands, he is running, turning in circles, and stepping over logs and whatever unstable ground he can find.

He's also been saying "bye" at interesting times. We'll be standing around after walking the dog, for example, and talking with our friends. Next thing we know, Wesley is doing his backwards hand wave saying, "BUUUYY-EEE". Like he's telling us, stop talking..it's time to go. He's also done that to me as I bump into someone at the grocery store as we are leaving.

In the first weekend of August, we'll be taking our first family getaway trip. It will be at Pismo where we will meet up with Wanda, Cheryl, and the rest of the family. I'll let you know how we do with the baby (and no dog).

Here's a most recent montage of Wes. Sorry for the wedding repeats...

Jenny and Rui's Wedding

Sorry I'm so behind. Lately, I've been writing a post, save it as a draft, then weeks later I forgot to come back to it to publish it. Ok, no more. Whatever I type is what you get : )

A little less about Wesley, (yea right..as you will see in the montage) Jenny and Rui were married on 7/7/07. Congratulations, you two! Here is a montage of their wedding:

I took 2 steps!

On June 19th, Wesley was 15 months old.

Yea! Last Wednesday, Wesley finally took two steps towards me from his play kitchen to me with a spatula in his hand! I don't think he realized what he did. He repeated it again the next night. I'll get that on video as soon as that happens. But, at least, he's doing a lot more hand-hold walking and cruising. He's learning to cruise from one furniture to the next that is in reach. Still loves to crawl, though. (and be carried...ahem) I'm hoping he might really be walking at Jenny's wedding on July 7th.

His vocabulary is getting bigger..he can say "bye", "ah-pah" (airplane), "pup-pup", "up"(his favorite), "ma-ma", and "da-da"(another favorite). He can wave "hi/bye", give people Hi-Fives, and his newest is pointing. Not sure what's he's really pointing at, but I'm sure we'll all figure it out soon.

He also loves to watch us cook. As soon as we start cooking, he wants "up" so he can see what's going on. And his appetite is crazy big, even though he's still skinny. Loves all kinds of foods. He's not picky at all. He eats his veggies. Just today Jay gave him cottage cheese. I think when he becomes a teen, he's going to eat us out of house and home. Big appetite, high metabolism.

He's also doing great at his new daycare. They love him over there and constantly tell me he was such a good boy. The mother or mother in law (not sure which, English is her second language),that the kids call "Nana" tells me "he is such a nice boy". She said this in front of another parent...I think he's one of her favorites..hee, hee.

My First Train Ride

Wesley received this train set from Popo and Goong-Goong for his 1st birthday. He was scared when he tried it. So, we kept in the garage for a bit and decided to test him out on it today. Here's what happened....

In The News This Weekend

Did you know I heard in the news:

"40 Year old Nipple was Euthanized"

Really..that is what I heard. Well, that's what I thought I heard. I should have heard "Hippo".

My right ear is plugged up with fluid. It's been that way for a few weeks now. Just last week I had an ear infection...my second one in two weeks. Fluid is still there, so now I'm on decongestants. Hopefully it will clear up by this week or I'm going to have to get it drained.

This is just a part of what's been going on with the Hann family. The hold family has been sick for a month..both Wes and me got ear infections, all of us got a sinus infection. It has been non-stop. We still have our cough, but are all slowly recovering.

Happy Belated Easter

Happy Easter (Wow..sorry I forgot about this post..I'll need to update soon)

Couple of things have happened since I last wrote. Wes learned a couple of new things.

One: When Jay is around, both Rudy and him gravitate towards him. Wes and Rudy are always orbiting Jay whether he’s standing or at his knees when he’s sitting down. Well, one day when Jay was sitting at the couch, Rudy walks over with face was towards Jay’s knees, Wes crawls over and uses his right index finger and pokes Rudy square in the bullseye, if you know what I mean…..ewwwww!

Two: Friday (4/6), after daycare shut down early, we took off to the Drs. This time it was for me. Wes said his first spoken words. “Bye!” He waved and said “bye” to the Dr. She said it sounded very clear that he said “Bye”. Does it count if he says it that day, but hasn’t said it since?

Hasn’t walked unassisted yet, but is walking when you hold his hands. He’s tried to let one hand go a few times, but then he starts to fall. My poor little bobble-head baby.

Talking about bobble-head. At his 1 year old appointment, he’s below the charts in weight, 5% height, and 50% for the head. As you can see, he’s top heavy. When he falls, he's usually on all fours and topples due to his head. We're hoping his body will grow fast to accompany his head.

St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Paddy’s Day

Wanda has been here. She’s here for Wesley’s Birthday. She came up last Friday and will be here til Monday. We started a little early for eating corned beef and cabbage. Wes’ party is on Saturday and we thought we might be eating leftovers from the party (plus we also need room in the frig for his party). So, last night we had our St. Paddy’s meal. Come to find out Wesley LOVES cabbage…toot, toot! He didn’t wake up last night, so I guess he didn’t have any tummy problems. He’s starting to do well with eating big people food. He’ll grab fistfuls and try to shove it into his mouth. Then, he’ll sometimes rub his face or hair with his hands…lovely.

I haven't done this in a while, but here's a montage up to his first birthday(click on the picture below):

Haircut

Lately, Jay has been obessed about Wes' hair, snipping a little here and a little there. It was looking pretty good. He got all the sides and back cleaned up.
Tonight, I was eating my dinner. Jay was in the hallway with Wes. Next thing I knew, Wes looked like this! Aye Ya! He reminds me of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber! Jay thinks it looks great. What do you think? You can take a poll.
